Hey there! Thank you for being here. I’m Nadine, the traveller behind saorsa.

saorsa is Scottish-Gaelic and translates to freedom. One of my best friends is a fluent Gaelic speaker and helped me find the name for my blog. We have chosen this name one the one hand due to my love of Celtic history and nations with close connections to Ireland, Scotland, and Cornwall. On the other hand, the meaning of the word, freedom, which to me equates to the ability to travel.

I have been incredibly lucky to visit 34+ countries, adding new destinations every couple of months. Many of the experiences I had and places I visited over the last couple of years were once-in-a-lifetime, pinch-me moments, almost too good to be true. The ultimate feeling of freedom.

I always need to have a trip booked – if I don’t, I get nervous. Exploring the world, spending time in nature, and being exposed to different means growth to me more than anything else. Filling my memory cache with moments, scents, colours, and sounds from all over the world is one of my biggest priorities in life.

I spend countless hours researching destinations, hotels, and experiences. I feel most at ease in nature, but I also love design, comfort, and culinary, and I curate my itineraries around those preferences. Once I’ve booked a trip, I daydream about it until it begins.

When choosing a hotel, I look for places with a unique feel, something that will leave me inspired. The thrill of walking into a beautiful hotel room for the first time must be one of my favourite feelings in the world.

In recent times, friends and family have often asked me for recommendations on places to stay or share itineraries of some of my past trips with them. It’s such a joy when someone visits one of my recommendations and loves it as much as I did.

I have always loved expressing myself through the written word and though I’m native German, writing English feels natural to me. So, starting this little blog, dedicating some of my time to the things I enjoy felt like a great thing to do.
